Hair Extensions Frequently Asked Questions

Beginning with the most important FAQ;

Q - How safe is it for my own hair to use extensions?

A - An important question, and one that deserves an approriate answer.

We've all heard horror stories regarding hair extensions, and unfortunately we've seen the effects of the wrong extensions on the wrong people applied by the wrong person.

At Angelhair we want to erase these negative images of hair extensions by being the best in the business.

To achieve this we believe that teamwork is the answer to having damage free extensions.

Our role is to provide;

  • damage free systems
  • a free consultation with detailed information to ensure our clients are aware of every aspect before making the decision to have extensions
  • thorough aftercare and maintenance advice

and to ensure;

  • each client's hair is in the best condition before application
  • each client gets the best system suited to their individual needs
  • clients are confident looking after their new hair
  • we are always available for advice

Our clients role as part of the team is to;

  • follow our aftercare and maintenance advice
  • return for scheduled maintenance and removal appointments
  • make the time and effort in looking after their extra hair
  • contact us immediately if and when they have a problem

As professionals we stick to our roles and thankfully because of this our clients stick to theirs, resulting in damage free beautiful hair.

Q - Will people be able to tell that I'm wearing extensions?

A - Have you ever noticed someone in the street and knew instantly they're wearing extensions? If so they obviously haven't been to us. We create your new hair by choosing a style and  colour  that matches your own hair, and expertly cut the extensions to blend totally naturally. Balance, colour, expert application and cut are the key to undetectable extensions.

Q - How long will it take to add extensions to my own hair?

A - It depends on what system and style you choose. Temporary extensions needn't be a long process, however for bigger and more permanent transformations it can take up to six hours. At Angelhair we make each client feel right at home and most of our clients don't even realise they've been sitting for so long.

Q - How much will it cost?

A - That depends entirely on which system you choose, hair grade, length, quantity, colours etc. We offer a free consultation that will help to decide which method will suit your lifestyle, budget and style.

Q - Will my new hair feel heavy?

A - You will definetly notice you have extra hair, but because we expertly balance the weight and volume of your own hair with the extension hair you will quickly get used to having a gloriously full head of hair.

Q - Will my scalp be able to breathe naturally with extensions?

A - The extensions are fitted 1/4 inch from the hair roots and scalp but do not block them, so you will be able to feel and touch your scalp as normal.

Q - How do I look after my extensions?

A - Your new hair will look and feel just like your own. We will discuss thoroughly all your aftercare needs during your consultation and provide you with your own aftercare leaflet.

Q - Do I need to buy special shampoos and conditioners?

A - In a word NO! As long as you use shampoos and conditioners that are ph balanced and mild, then your new hair will continue to look fantastic. We do recommend our fantastic Equave vitamin spray, but it's not an essential purchase. A proper hair extension brush is a must though as it's specifically designed to gently brush from the roots, removing everyday natural shedding.

Q - Can I use a hairdryer, hot rollers, hot sticks, tongs and other styling equipment?

A - Yes, as we always use 100% Human Hair, you can straighten, curl and style your new hair as you would your own.

Q - Is it safe to let my hair dry naturally?

A - Yes, you can treat your extensions just like your own hair. Wet extensions look just as natural and organic as freshly washed hair. Although we do advise you dry the bonds of any adhesive and resin systems as this will help to keep them at their maximum strength.

Q - If I fancy a new hair colour, how will that match up with my extensions?

A - Any extension hair we apply is perfectly matched in colour to your own. We recommend that you have your hair coloured ahead of any extension work.

Q - Can I get my roots coloured whilst I'm wearing extensions?

A - Don't worry, with most of our systems you can still colour your roots with the extensions attached. For any of our systems that you can't we can colour your roots when you come in for maintenance and then re-apply the extensions again.

Q - Can I just add highlights?

A - Yes, this is a very effective way of enjoying extensions and you can choose instant colour that your hairdresser might otherwise feel would be too damaging to chemically apply to your own hair. Hair extensions are a great way of achieving a bold new or natural colour.

Q - How long will my extensions last?

A - As we have several methods of application each one has a different timescale. Our hair extension page will give you the relevant information.

Q - Should I give my hair a rest between extensions?

A - We encourage our clients to take a break between extensions, even if its only for a week or two. It enables clients to have their hair trimmed, coloured or conditioned, as some of the more permanent methods inhibit these procedures. Clip-ins are always on hand for any client who cannot live without their extra hair.

Q - Can I swim and play sport with my new extensions?

A - During consultation we assess a client's lifestyle and will match the best system to each client. For example any client who needs to wash their hair every day would be advised to try clip-ins as they won't get their full timeframe from other extensions as the bonds would be weakened due to excessive washing, and therefore a waste of money.

Q - What happens if I don't like my new extensions?

A - This thankfully has never happened, but if a client was unhappy, we would recommend they return to the salon to have the extensions professionally removed.  Refunds cannot be given on our clip-ins, but we will happily refund for other systems providing its within the first week of application. Deposits taken during consultations are not refundable.

Q - What happens when my extensions are removed?

A - This again depends on what system you have in please refer to our hair extension page for more details. We guarantee that there are no harsh or damaging chemicals used in any of our removal techniques.

Q - Where does your human hair come from?

A - Real hair is Asian, Oriental, Russian or European, usually collected from India, China and European countries. It is collected as fallen or brushed, gathered together, and then sold to religious temples to be sold onto hair factories or is sometimes sold directly to hair factories from independant people. Once the real hair has arrived at the hair factories it is cleansed in a mild caustic soda solution, lightened and then permed if a soft wave or deep wave structure is required. The hair is then tinted to match the colour rings that are produced to match the required extension hair colours.
